Journal, vol. VIII, 1856-1858.

S. Edward Warren's journal is more a record of what he thought than of what he did. He committed his thoughts about religious matters to paper, as well as his philosophy of teaching. Warren mentioned a book he was doing on geometrical graphics, wrote about colors, and outlined seven of the textbooks he planned to write. He made a number of references to students, professors and his own teaching at RPI. A portion of the volume includes summaries of sermons that Warren heard and his reasons for leaving the Presbyterian Church for the Episcopal Church. As well, the volume contains sketches of the layouts of his rooms, a plan for a house, and a description of an Italian villa. On page 125, he detailed the contents of a birthday package sent by his parents. Warren made very few references to social events, though he wrote about making calls on New Year's Day and an outing to visit Queen's Island. In 1865, Warren reread his journal, added a few notes, crossed out some passages, and removed some pages.
